Friday Faces 51 – Lunch Interrupted

I haven’t posted a Friday Face since December 2020 so thought it was about time I posted another.

This photo of a young red deer stag isn’t a crop.  I was standing on a low bridge and he appeared from a slope to the left and in front of me. He’d been eating the lush grass from the edge of a lake.

I don’t know who was more surprised, me or him. He was VERY close to me and pretty big.  It was the rutting season so a time when stags can be dangerous. Luckily this young one had no harem of hinds to protect so I was safe enough!
