Wanna meet an Angel
.
On 1500 Saturdays, my other blog, I have posted about the brilliant and massive sculpture called The Angel of the North, with photos, and you can read about it here
I make no apology for saving a couple of my favourites to share on Photomania 😀
I was there as the light was fading.. the perfect time.

Great images! 🙂 Lovely silhouetting.
Thanks Richard .. this is a truly remarkable piece
As you say Helen. The perfect time! Well worth the visit for these silhouettes.
Absolutely Dave.. it’s awesome when you are standing beneath it..
Super silhouettes, especially the top one. I had not appreciated the enormity of the sculpture.
Thanks Louis, I’m glad that you had that reaction to the 1st shot as that was what I was hoping to convery.. did you pop over and look at the ones on 1500 Saturdays too?
I have now! Thanks for the details. It is an amazing work. Thank goodness there were people in high places to support Gormley’s vision.
Striking!
yes Striking indeed Elena
Wow…great images Helen, really puts the Angel in perspective. I live on the doorstep of this statue and have loved it since it was first erected. I would go as far as to say that these are the best shots that I have seen of the Angel. Superb.
Gosh thank you very much David H I am honoured that you say that.. did you pop over and see the others on 1500 Saturdays too?
Very cool images, Helen!
Glad you like them Karen.. it was a pleasure to be there at that time of day.
Epic shots, Helen. You were there at the right moment – well planned!
I was indeed Rachael and glad to be.
Stunning!
Thanks Howard.. you’re the man !!!
I love these pictures Helen. I’ve driven past her heading up the A1 many times and marvelled, but never stopped for a close up. Now I think I will, next time I’m passing.
Oh yes do Finn.. she is truly awesome up close..
Both good pictures, but love the top one bestest! A
I love the top one too Adrian.. I was in 2 minds about cropping out the edge of the wing that you can see in the top left corner but I rather think it adds to the photo.
Excellent silhouettes, and I really like the partial framing of the first shot and the dynamic framing of the second shot. Lovely sky tones as well.
Most excellent idea! We get two of Gormley’s ideas in one – with your human figures imitating his beach figures and similar.
