So once the torrential rain had stopped ( about 11.30) I headed out to see what I could find to photograph and as I knew there was going to be a very high tide at 12 I headed for the coast road….naturally!

If you look at the top photo just to the left and above the slow sign you will see the edge of steps. I got up on the 3rd step only stepping in an inch or so of water to get there. I took 2 photos in fairly quick succession and when I turned to go back towards my car the few feet of road I had just walked along was under water – including the slow sign – a good 10-12 inches of water.

In a few seconds.

I felt rather scared I must admit as the ferocious wind was blowing the water inland and I couldn’t stop all those horrendous pictures of tsunamis come rushing into my mind. I had a momentary sense of how powerful the sea is and how terrifying it must have been to see the water coming towards you so fast.

Luckily I quickly saw that I could go up the steps into a front garden and climb across the fence into the next door’s garden. From there down the steps onto the road and through just a few inches of water back to where I’d parked my car and for a few more shots from a safe distance.

The sloping road you can see to the left is into someone’s drive the road is below that and goes round a bend so you can’t see how long the flood goes on for.. cars soon stopped going round and started to turn back.. very wise!

If you compare the top and bottom photos you can see just how far the flood had travelled.

This was not a nice experience but the risk certainly concentrated the mind !

I admit I was rather pleased with the photos when I saw them.

I absolutely love this building which is on the beach at Rampside in Cumbria. It’s a Victorian navigation light ( not a lighthouse) that’s 46′ tall. The light would show only on the beach side and would have served as a leading light for Walney channel. I just think it is beautiful being so unusually tall and thin with lovely brickwork. Elegant in the extreme.

I was travelling up to the Lake District yesterday and stopped off in the Yorkshire Dales to take some photos in the rain and wind. Boy can it ever rain up here; I’ve learnt to love my waterproofs…and that wind nearly blew me off my feet several times..

What I’ll do to try to get a half-decent photo !

I will be editing photos on a VERY tiny netbook while I’m away so heaven knows what the quality of the photos will be like as I can hardly see them ! I’m sure you’ll tell me !

First a few sheep shots ( try saying that fast half a dozen times )

Don’t these sheep have the loveliest of black faces and I thought the ear tags looked like earrings..
